Review: Dr Bad Boy (Frisky Beavers #2) by Ainsley Booth and Sadie Haller #MoniqueReviews

This is a book that I'm dying to read. I was so excited to get my hands on it. I haven't read it yet so I'm not spoiling it for myself by reading Monique's review ... I skimmed it. I was meant to read the book weeks ago but family / life stuff got in the way of reading. My apologies to the authors for that. I will get to it soon.

In the meantime, here's Monique's review:

ps. I think there might be a Mr Manview of this book coming at some point too! Stay tuned!

DW Team ReviewViolet Roberts decided to celebrate her divorce in grand style, at the Chateau Laurier, and hopefully treat herself to a one-night stand. And she got exactly what she wanted with a guy who was exactly her type, and shared her sexual preferences: Max. It was truly a night to remember, even if Max thought she was a call girl. Violet has been thinking about her mystery man, and so has he. Violet is a junior associate in a law firm, and when her boss dumps a client on her, Violet is stunned to see that it’s her Max! He’s just moved to Ottawa from Vancouver, and he’s the type of client the firm craves. Not only is his business important: Gavin Strong, Canada’s Prime Minister, is Max’s best friend!

After the ending of PRIME MINISTER, I couldn’t wait to read Max’s story, and what a fascinating character he is, even more than I thought. Max has a very unusual backstory, as hinted at the beginning of DR. BAD BOY, and I was salivating at the thought of knowing everything about him. Max is rather dysfunctional, and he knows it; a child star, he became a paediatrician, and a very good one. DR. BAD BOY starts off with Violet and Max’s encounter three months prior to the story per se, and is it ever hot! Violet is hesitant to pursue a relationship with a prominent client, but she cannot help herself: Max is everything she wants. Theirs is a fascinating relationship, because it really begins only with sex, kinky stuff, which they both enjoy.

Going in knowing that DR. BAD BOY is erotica, it was a given that there would be a lot of sex, but the second third of the book is kinky sex, chapter after chapter after chapter, and I found it tiresome after a while. Not that it wasn’t hot and well done, but because I wanted more of Max and Violet’s relationship. I must also point out that the type of kinks Max and Violet enjoy is not something I find particularly appealing, but to each their own. However when it came to how Max and Violet dealt with a particular piece of news, it left me extremely uncomfortable, and my rating dropped; this is personal of course, but it was a sore spot for me. Without giving away any spoilers, I think Violet deserved to be slapped, and therein lies my problem: maybe I don’t fully understand the dynamics of this particular type of sex play, but to me it felt as if Max was really punishing Violet, even though she agrees. This was a consequence of another of Violet’s actions, which had already brought my rating down. On the other hand, that was a detail I had noted and I had wondered if the authors would remember, and they did.

I did not find Violet particularly interesting, unlike Ellie from PRIME MINISTER, but Max is an extraordinarily fascinating character, there are still things that have remained unmentioned, and I hope we get to hear his full backstory at some point. One thing is for sure: Ainsley Booth  and Sadie Haller really know how to end a book! The last chapter is a titillating of what we can expect from THE FULL MOUNTIE, and it is going to be explosive!
