A bunch of book reviews | Jessa Kane, JE Parker, Cassie Cole, Cindy Gerard

Book reviews

Hello! Hello! I'm home. I'm trying to get back on track on the blogging front, trying being the operative word because, lordy, I am too old for all this traveling, living off caffeine, and then driving all day to get home. I have been so tired since getting home. But there I am, trying to get back on track. So, how about a bunch of book reviews? A few quick and easy ones since I realise I have not been posting as many book reviews and this is an easy way to do them.

Books I have not finished 2022 #2

These have been accumulating so I've got a bunch to share with you today. It's inevitable that if you read as many books as I do in a year and if you try as many new authors as I do in a year, there are bound to be some that are not to your taste. This is me for whatever reason, these books are not my jam. Some of them are pretty hyped up books that  a lot of people love too. Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited that allows me to try a lot of new stuff without too much of a financial consequence since I can borrow the book and return it if it doesn't work for me. On the flip side, if I try a book and find a new author I love, I can glom the author's backlist and then buy all her books if I want to reread them.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2022 #1

Okay, I know I posted a DNF books review post recently, but I had a bunch accumulated from last year and I didn't want them to carry over for too long. My apologies if you're over the whole DNF thing, but I promise not to post them too frequently. Hopefully, during this year, I will have much fewer books that I do not enjoy. Maybe I need to be more discerning with the books and authors I try and stick to old favorites. A lot of the DNFs are from new to me authors. Sigh.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2021 #5

I'm a little surprised that I have more books I have not finished, but I keep trying new things and sometimes those things do not work. By things, I mean authors and books. I've got a few more from this year that didn't work, but I'll save them for next year. I didn't want to overload this one.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2021 #4

Time for another books I did not finish. I'm slowing right down on these because I'm intentionally picking books I know I will enjoy reading or I'm sticking to favorite authors and playing it safe.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2021 #3

My books I have not finished has slowed down a great deal. I say this because I have not been DNFing as many books recently. I think part of it is because I've been careful about picking books I know I will enjoy reading and therefore would less likely be a DNF. Plus, something I've been doing recently is when trying or attempting to try a new author, I've been posting in book groups and asking what people think about the book first to see if I'd read it. I'm finding this really helps me when I decide to try something outside of my comfort zone. I did that with a book I was interested in recently that was branded as a dark romance, and turns out after asking about it, it was more of a light grey which worked for me.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2021 #2

Time for another books I did not finish. I'm hoping to slow down the number of books I have not finish by being more circumspect about what I pick to read. This tends to mean I stick more to favorite authors rather than venturing out and experimenting since there's a high probability of books not working out when I do that. That said, I do have a few highly recommended books in my TBR from a book group where people have raved about the book. Those are always iffy. We shall see what happens...

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2021 #1

I'm back with some DNF reviews. With the blog and reviewing books, I try a lot of new authors and books and sometimes they just don't work. Plus I'm in a lot of book groups and books get recommended frequently in them. Sadly, I am finding that my taste in books is quite conservative and I tend not to like what seems to be really popular and get recommended a lot.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2020 #6 (This is it, I promise!)

Last year, I read a lot more books than I ever have. Cracked a whopping record for myself with 346 books. That's almost a book a day. Granted some were shorter and some were longer. Most were in the middle. Anyway, with reading more books, proportionally there were more books that I didn't enjoy as much. Percentage wise it held pretty steady but because I read more books, there were more DNFs. I'm on the same trajectory so far this year and it looks like I'm doing it again.

That said, this is the last of it from last year. I know I need to be more diligent about posting my reviews even of things I don't finish because I think that brings balance. Not everyone will love everything. That's why I do these.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2020 #5 (Yeah, the 2020 is not a mistake. This is a carry over from last year)

How are you all doing this new year? It's a few weeks into it now, are you getting back in the swing of things? I think I've enjoyed my time off too much because I am struggling to get back into work and stuff. I'm feeling decidedly lazy and I want to do is watch movies and read books. There are worst things to be doing, right?

I'm still working through books I did not finish in 2020. There were more than I expected and I broke them up into smaller chunks so that I would not bore you with a lot of it. It's been a while since I've even looked at these books, so some of them were even a surprise for me as I was putting this together.

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2020 #4

I've learned something which should have been obvious but alas, sometimes I'm not that observant. I've read a lot more books this year. Broke my all time high record, actually. What I've learned is with reading a lot more books, I'm also finding more books I've loved, and more books that were duds. The proportion of those books remain approximately the same, but since I've read over 300 books this year instead of my usual 150+, there are a lot more that didn't make the cut. I was debating whether to list them all here today (there are a lot!) or break them up and spread them into next year. I've decided not to overwhelm you because who wants to listen to me grumble about books I didn't enjoy ad nauseum?

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Books I have not finished 2020 #3

I've been reading a lot more this year. Maybe it's because of the pandemic because I'm home all the time now. Maybe I'm more motivated to read. Maybe I've become addicted to reading (that's not a bad thing). With more reading, there is also a bigger chance of duds happening. I'm trying a lot more recommendations from people in book groups and more likely to try new authors from Kindle Unlimited. A lot of my reading is from KU these days. I love that subscription.

So without further ado, here's more books I didn't finish for whatever reason.

Recognising the signs of a DNF

Book with glasses

I've been DNFing (did not finish) a lot of books lately. A few years ago I wrote about how I struggled with DNFing a book and how conflicted I get about doing it. I'm not sure if much has changed in the intervening years.

Books I have not finished 2020 #2

Still on the reading merry go round that is Kindle Unlimited. And oh yeah, let's not forget all the Facebook ads I get sucked into clicking on and downloading because the excerpts and ads sound good but the books themselves let me down. I never like it when I have to DNF a book because it makes me feel rather disgruntled. The good news is that the books I do enjoy and finish outweigh the ones I do not.

Books I have not finished in 2020 #1

Do you know what happens when you get adventurous and try a whole bunch of new authors and read a lot of indie authors and in Kindle Unlimited? Lots of great books, but also lots of duds. I've been making an effort to read through more of the free books I get from Amazon and also use my Kindle Unlimited subscription. On top of that, I've been getting sucked in by other readers raving about books they have loved in some book groups. Alas, different people have different tastes and what some people love, I don't. Hence this post.

Books I have not finished in 2019 #2

Okay, I got adventurous for the second half of 2019 and I experimented A LOT. I found some great new authors but sadly, many didn't work out for me either. Anyway, this is going to be a long one and it's the last of my DNF reviews for the year. So if you're into finding out what I didn't enjoy and why, you might want to grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and relax. There are a bunch here. And maybe the reasons I didn't like a book don't bother you at all and you'd actually want to read it. :-)

Books I have not finished in 2019 #1

I've been cautious about what I read this year and have not experimented as much. As a result of that, I haven't DNFed as many books. The reasons for that are, I didn't think I'd have much time to read this year so I set my reading goal low and focused on authors I love and enjoy, and I have not been experimenting with as many new to me authors. The few times I have experimented, more often than not, I've DNFed the book, hence there are many new-to-me authors I've DNFed below. It's always a pot shot when trying a new author even when others love them and highly recommend them. Tastes are so different. Just because I didn't enjoy these books doesn't mean you wouldn't.

Books I have not finished in 2018 #3

For the second half of 2018 my reading slowed right down. Hence, a lot fewer books read, a lot less trying new-to-me authors, and a lot less duds. Nonetheless, there were a couple. Only a couple, and one of them only in the last week because the book blurb drew me in and it sounded cute as heck. Alas, it did not live up to the anticipation of the blurb.

Not to be a Debbie-downer so close to the end of the year, but I'm closing out the last of the year with the last of the books I have not finished. There aren't many!
