Synopsis
Dragon-warrior Venom lives in
self-imposed isolation. Cursed by his toxic touch, he is deadly to
anyone who has contact with him for too long. Set apart from others and
hounded by intense loneliness, he craves the lasting connection he
believes he cannot possess. Until a chance encounter with a sultry
mortal offers a ray of hope…
Evelyn Foxe is the woman of Venom’s every desire, but she’s too busy running from the Russian mob to think about love. As she accepts Venom’s offer to help her escape her precarious situation, she’s skeptical, afraid that he’s in league with those sent to harm her. But when a biological weapon is unleashed in her hometown, Evelyn is forced to trust Venom—or risk the dangers of going it alone.
Will they survive the firestorm that rages around them? And can they pull from the ashes a love that will defy all the odds and last through the ages?

Excerpt
Instinct whispered in her ear, plying her with suspicion. She frowned. What was his game? He must be running one. Venom wasn’t stupid. Far from it. Which meant he must’ve known. Must’ve guessed what would happen— that he wouldn’t be able to hide his scalier side from her forever.
Or maybe he’d simply planned on lying to her . . . ad infinitum.
The thought tugged at her temper. An odd reaction. Not at all warranted. She didn’t own the right to be pissed off at him. Anger didn’t belong in the equation. She’d planned to use him for money. He’d wanted her for sex. A simple exchange. No fuss. No muss. And yet, the idea of him being dishonest with her woke something primal. Something dangerous. Something that shoved her toward the truth. The thought of Venom lying to her more than bothered her. It infuriated her, violated her sense of . . . of . . . well, she didn’t know exactly. Right and wrong? Her sense of self-worth? A healthy dose of pride, maybe? No clue. But whatever the catalyst, it lit the fuse, setting moral indignation on fire, tipping the balance, making her throw caution to the wind.
Eyes narrowed, she scowled up at him. “Venom.”
“Almost there, mazleiha.”
“Where are we going?”
“Somewhere safe.”
“Will your dragon friends be there?”
Her clipped tone made him glance down. She glared at him.
A wary light entered his eyes. “No. It’ll just be you and me for a while.”
“Good,” she said, hot sauce in her tone. “We need to talk.”
“You gonna take it easy on me?”
“No.”
He grimaced. “That’s what I thought.”

Synopsis
Let your hair down, Caroline,
they said. It'll be fun, they said.
I know I've closed myself off in a major way in the past year, ever since “the incident” where I messed up my life completely. It's past time I try to live again or just give up completely. But this is quite possibly the craziest thing I've ever done. In a last ditch effort to invigorate myself, I'm standing outside Oren Tenning's bedroom, I just peeled off the sexiest pair of underwear I own, and my hand is already raised to knock. My brother would disown me for doing anything with his best friend, and he'd probably kill Oren. But if I play my cards right, no one will ever know about this. Not even Ten.
Maybe after tonight, I’ll finally get over this stupid, irrational crush I hate having on the biggest jerk I’ve ever met. Or maybe I’ll just end up falling for him even harder. Maybe I’ll discover there’s so much more to my crude, carefree hunk than meets the eye.

Excerpt
She was Noel Gamble’s one and only sister; I could not fuck her. No matter what.
Ergo, I needed to take drastic measures to keep her at arm’s length. I needed to...okay, fine. Fuck. I just needed to be me. Not really so drastic once you think about it, even though it probably seemed that way to her.
So I let her have the full intensity of Ten. I stopped watching what I said when she was around, and I let all my base, disgusting thoughts bleed out of my mouth like I usually did. I stopped smiling at her, stopped paying her special attention with little courteous things like holding doors open for her or asking her how her day went. I completely stopped being a nice guy. I backed off and pretty much ignored her, unless I could think up something crude to say in her direction. I made sure to chase other women when she was around. And I felt like shit every night I lay in bed, unable to get to sleep, because I’d relive every awful thing I’d done to her that day.
No matter how deeply my actions ate at me, though, it didn’t stop me from making her hate me and killing any soft feelings she’d ever had for me.
It should’ve been easy to accomplish. Everyone who knows me knows how fast I can piss off a woman.
But nothing about Caroline has ever been easy.
That’s the curious thing about temptation. It festers and grows. You feed that bitch enough and she morphs into craving, and then craving turns into obsession. Pretty soon, nothing in your life is as important as that one thing you want but can’t have.
I wanted her and I couldn’t have her, so I fed the temptation, I flooded the craving, I would’ve fucking nursed the obsession from my own tits if I could’ve. I made sure I got little doses of her here and there. Except something incredibly enlightening happens when you spend enough time in one woman’s company. You start noticing shit about her, little useless shit that actually begins to mean everything, like how she brushes the hair out her face—even if there isn’t any in her eyes—whenever she’s unsettled, or how she chews on the end of a pen during class whenever she’s listening to something that captivates her attention. You learn all her different laughs and know what each one means. You learn what pisses her off the most, or what makes her the happiest. You discover how smart and witty and sarcastic she is, and that her mind is almost as dirty as yours. You see how passionate she becomes when she defends those she loves, and you start to fall. Hard.
So, this is my Pathetic Loser’s confession: I am Oren Tenning and I have fallen. Hard.

Synopsis
T-FLAC is back in an exciting
action-adventure romance filled with danger, subterfuge and steamy,
red-hot attraction.
NO MEMORY OF HIS PAST
Powerful cartel leader Sin Diaz lives a dangerous life filled with secrets and lies, and surrounded by people who claim to have known him all his life. Yet flashes of another life, totally unrelated to the jungles of Cosio, hang tantalizingly on the edges of his memory. He'll trust no one until he recalls his true past.
NO DREAMS OF A FUTURE
T-FLAC operative Riva Rimaldi's mission is simple. Go undercover, learn terrorist Escobar Maza's agenda, then kill him. But when the helicopter she's on crashes deep in the jungle of the small, volatile country of Cosio, she finds herself in the wrong hands. Is the sexy as hell leader of the ANSL, Sin Diaz, the enemy of her enemy, worse than Maza himself? Or is he someone entirely different than his reputation – and will he become her lover?
TOGETHER THEY HOLD THE KEY
Sin and Riva must work together to stop a madman who will go to any lengths to attain his terrifying goal. But can they unravel the truth in time? The timer is ticking.
What they don’t know could get them killed.

Excerpt
Her visions were never wrong. They always came true. Could the circumstances leading up to them be changed, and would that change negate the outcome? Possibly. Problem was, she didn't have visions for herself. This vision was Sin's future.
It told her no matter how much she resisted, how much she fought him, they were going to have sex. Not only were they going to connect, she was damn well going to enjoy it. The future image was so powerful she almost reached an orgasm, as her vision of the future merged with what was happening in the now.
Her fists unfurled. Her fingers gripped the soft, damp hair on his hot, naked chest as his fingers dug into the balls of her shoulders. No room to move, no way other than to stand on her toes to better reach his mouth. Eyes squeezed tight, Riva lived a duel sensation as he kissed her in the now, and her mind showed her their future in sensual Technicolor.
The morning sunlight flooding the small hut faded. Cave-like darkness surrounded them, and there was nothing but the feel of him surrounding her. No, damn it. That was the vision. It didn't have to happen. She, like the prisoners, could zig instead of zag. She'd make different choices. Make damn sure that never happened.
In the now, he was only kissing her. His hands were on her shoulders, holding her in place.
It was just a kiss.

Synopsis
Callan Baird used to laugh more
than he frowned, but that was before his wife died. Now his life is
duty, debts and a general apathy for anything else. And then Victoria
Burke burst into his life. She's everything he wants to corrupt.
Victoria has two choices: agree to a grouchy, sexy Scotsman's extortion or call her boss to explain why she can't do her job. Since she's spent the last three years rebuilding her career as antique appraiser, and this one commission could make or break it, the decision is a no-brainer. Except everything about Callan is complicated.
He sees no problem turning their work relationship into a sexual one. She refuses to break her boss' no-fraternization rule. He's the one thing she wants and the one thing she can't have. He's had his one great love, and doesn't want a replacement. His heart doesn't agree, because she's everything he desires.
Callan will have to let go of his past if he wants Victoria to be in his future.

“How about drinks after we're done here? That table over there is the last on our list. You can make amends for calling me goat-fucker.”
Booze, plus him seemed to equal a dumb-ass decision. Also, she wasn't sorry for that particular insult. “I still have more work to do. I'm sorry but I'll have to decline the offer.”
“The same Burke who'd have likely slept on my doorstep until I signed a contract has suddenly lost her guff?” He tutted in disappointment.
He dangled that as bait, and with him this close, she only wanted to bite into his lower lip as punishment. This was bad. “The only thing I need to know about you is whether or not you can competently repair the antiques.”
“That's all?”
“Yes.”
“Good. I was worried there for a moment. The way you were looking at me...”
His position had forced her to hold his gaze. Heat burned in her chest, and she realized she'd been holding her breath. Letting it out, she took her time in replying—okay, she had to wait until her voice could come out cool, unaffected. “If you were the last man on earth, yada, yada.”
He laughed, and this time she was sure he'd taken her words as a challenge. She pushed him back and stood. For a fraction of a second, her palms lingered on his chest. His pecs under the shirt felt as wonderful as they looked.
Victoria snatched her hands away. Isn't this how she'd screwed up in the first place? She'd lost sight of her goal because a man had made her swoon. She'd already gotten hoodwinked into taking care of her boss' father. Victoria didn't need to add sex with Callan to the situation.
“Back up.” She put a bit of steel in the words and hoped it would trickle down her spine.
He tilted his head, taking in her face. “If I misread you then I apologize about making you uncomfortable.”
Her brows shot up in surprise. She didn't think he was the type to apologize, but nothing about him seemed consistent. He'd been a pain in her ass, gruff, impatient, thoughtful, uncaring and smart. She couldn't catch a foothold around him, but the tension in her shoulders ebbed.
“Apology accepted.” After his nod of acknowledgment she added, “We're at work. Let's act like it.”
He stuffed his hands in his jacket's pockets, his blue eyes so damn observant as he took her in. “For the record, I didn't read you wrong.”
She huffed. They'd circled back to him being a pain in her ass. At least she'd found something consistent about him. “Tell me one thing, Callan.”
His lip twitched. “Aye?”
“Do you hit women in the head and then drag them into your cave by their hair? Because that's the only way I can imagine you ever get laid.”
He took a moment to think about his answer. “Only the pulling hair part, but I've yet to get a complaint about that. So, the last thing on our list?”
Yup. That one thing was consistent. “Please, let's get this over with.”
He laughed again. She had the distinct impression he’d taken her reply as another challenge.

New Release: Tiger Lily by Amelie S Duncan
I'm particularly excited to welcome Tiger Lily and Amélie S
Duncan to the Deanna's
World today because I've read Tiger Lily and I absolutely
adore Jonas, the hero of the story. If for nothing else, my
recommendation is to read the book just to get to know Jonas, because
like me, you will love him and he's worth reading the book for. In
fact, I love him so much, I can't wait for Part Two.

Synopsis
Excerpt
I managed to not stare in awe at the murals, and walk confidently inside the softly lit lounge of Sir Harry’s.
The sleek mahogany bar with porcelain snack bowls dotted along the top took up a prominent portion of the room, and thereby was the first thing I noticed upon entry. Searching for a place to stand or sit, I zeroed in on one of the empty Japanned leather bar stools, and briskly made my way to secure the seat before someone else. With luck, I captured the vacant seat and swiveled around. Eyeing the eclectic mix of patrons, I stared over the high-fashioned starlets, middle-aged tailored gentlemen, and nouveau-riche designer clad tourists and wondered where I fit in.
Not sure, but I patted my back on arriving with ten minutes to spare before Jonas Crane was due to arrive. Jonas! It finally dawned on me I didn’t have a plan for approaching him. Knitting my brows, I tilted my head down and tried to focus on making an impromptu plan. What would be a good opener? Hello, yes. Jonas? Can I call you Jonas? I’m Lily Salomé from Arch Limited, and I’m your publishing house stalker, nice to meet you.
Fidgeting and inward gazing didn’t mix. At least not when holding my satin handbag with sweaty palms. Unfortunately, this realization came too late and my bag took flight, sliding across the floor.
Shit. I had barely made it inside the bar and hadn’t even ordered my first drink or eaten a pistachio nut without embarrassing myself. Straightening my shoulders and ignoring the burning of my cheeks, I lifted my chin and eased over in the direction of my bag, doing my best to pretend I was bored and didn’t care, or that I had maybe even purposely tossed it around. Spotting the bag, my insides winced at the polished leather shoes it had bounced against. I hastened my steps, but paused as a pair of large tanned hands with a golden ring on the left ring finger picked it up.
Gazing up further, I met the most luminous eyes I had ever seen. They were a rare combination of blue and turquoise like a tropical sea. He had black wavy hair that hung a little longer on the top and sides. Some lines around his eyes, but boasted of an otherwise flawless face. With a smooth angular jawline, straight nose, and well-defined cheekbones most women would die for, he was divine. Not to mention, full sensual lips were flashing a perfect set of teeth.
My hand trembled a little as I took my handbag from him, and recognition finally set in. He was not only gorgeous, but he was the man I had come here for, Jonas Crane. Serendipitous or cliché, it didn’t matter. My “accidental on purpose” encounter with him had taken place.

Synopsis
What started as an assignment
became more than Lily could have ever hoped for...
Lily Salomé has encountered more challenges than the average twenty-four year old. After a horrendous crash killed her parents, an abusive relationship was all she needed to calcify her broken heart to stone. So when Lily’s boss comes to her with a challenge most girls would balk at, she knows there isn’t much left in this world to be afraid of.
The target: Jonas Crane, a brooding business mogul who hasn't smiled once since his divorce. Dark, dangerous and mouthwatering, Crane has written a book about life in the fast lane and with the recent publicity, Lily's boss wants the rights. Problem is, Crane won't return a phone call, let alone agree to a meeting. But if a pretty publishing assistant happens to run into him at the Waldorf, with a business card and a smile...what could go wrong?
A lot, it seems. Lily thinks she's going to the Waldorf to meet a rich jerk, or worse, a playboy, but the truth is way more challenging. Jonas Crane is smart, engaging...and devastatingly out of her league.

hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men”
starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in
her, protect your legs because they may be humped.Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Author interview
Can you introduce yourself and tell us what kind of books you write?
I’m Skye Warren, the New York Times bestselling author of dark romance! Thank you so much for the opportunity to share my new release, Love the Way You Lie. It explores taboo themes like betrayal and redemption, overlayed with suspense. If you’re up for something dangerous, disturbing and erotic, take a look…
What is Love the Way You Lie About?
Love the Way You Lie has a stripper heroine and a mysterious lone biker who is first her customer, then her lover, then her… well, you’ll have to read to find out. What you should know is that the book is dark, edgy, and sexy as hell.
This is the first book in a new series set in a strip club called The Grand.
Who is your favorite character in the book?
I love my heroes—their gruffness, their pain, their occasional cruelty. But I have a real soft spot for my heroines. So I would have to say I loved Honey the most. She is beaten down but determined, bent but not broken. For me that’s what strength is about.
What is the hardest part of writing for you?
Nothing and everything. I love the actual writing, coming up with a story and falling in love with them. But reader expectation is such a tough thing—it’s tough in any genre but has particular challenges for dark books. Even the word dark means different things to different readers. But ultimately I can only write the books I love and hope that my readers enjoy them.
What do you love about alpha heroes? Or anti-heroes, if that applies?
Why are these anti-heroes so damn appealing? Well, for one thing, they are tough and driven. They don’t take crap from anyone…even the heroine, sometimes. They often do follow their own code of honor, it just doesn’t necessarily match everyone else’s. But I think it’s something more elemental than that. A man who takes what he wants, damn the rules? Well…it’s plain sexy.
What makes a sex scene sexy to you? Or alternately, what do you do to write hot scenes?
I love a scene I can get lost in, both the physical sensations and the emotional resonance. And what I find most sexy is when power comes into play. Not with games, but where one side has the upper hand, the mingling of distrust and desire, of wariness and want.
What else should readers know about Love the Way You Lie?
There’s also a free prequel to the series coming. The best way to stay up to date about my releases is my newsletter here: sign up for newsletter

Synopsis
Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey
and Bared to You will savor a visit to
Club Inferno, the erotic playground where glitz and glamour mix with
leather and whips.
Deep in the shadows of her exclusive fashion resort, Couture, Colleen Bryant presides over a much more intimate world: Club Inferno. The successful businesswoman and sex instructor has built an empire that caters to the BDSM elite, but now she finds herself longing for something a bit more ordinary: a man to love. She’s not sure how to find someone who will accept what she does for a living—or the kinks that drive her wild—until her old flame, ex-pro football player Chase Fairwood, comes back in her life.
There’s no woman as hot, sexy, or exciting as Colleen—and Chase knows it. He also knows he’s man enough to play her games, and to give as good as he gets. His return to Club Inferno reignites Colleen’s scorching demands, along with a new determination to test his resolve. Soon he’s competing against a rival Dom to brand Colleen as his own. But Chase has a secret weapon: the burning desire to offer his body—and his heart—in sweet surrender.
Fever is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

Excerpt
Colleen Bryant’s shoulder ached from the repeated use of the cane on Senator Clemmons’s back. She was admiring her pattern and judging his pain level when he sighed and release shook through him.
“You didn’t ask my permission,” she said with a twinge of cold hatred.
“I’m sorry, Mistress.”
She strode across the dungeon to put the cane away. Her boots clacked ominously on the lacquered floor. Picking up a leather quirt, Colleen strode back over to him and waited until he shut his eyes and whimpered.
“Count,” she ordered, and whacked the small whip on his bare buttocks with a snap of her wrist.
He hissed an indrawn breath of pain and gritted out one through ten.
Colleen set her jaw, annoyed that his selfishness denied both of them the level of satisfaction they were striving for. If he didn’t pay so well, and turned a blind eye in directions she didn’t want anyone to look, she would have given him over to another Domme.
“Thank you, Mistress,” he panted.
Normally, she’d soothe a vitamin A and E salve over her submissive’s marks and fetch him a glass of cold water while he came down from the endorphin high. Today, she snapped her fingers and one of the other dungeon submissives scurried over to assist the senator.
“Thank you,” Colleen heard him sigh again before she slammed the door.
Her hands, encased in black leather gloves, clenched into fists. She forced herself to relax one finger at a time. It wasn’t as if she had been planning to orgasm during the session. Hell, the senator wanted just humiliation and someone to beat his ass, not an energetic sex scene. Still, there should be a connection between a Domme and sub—a trust that the senator would never give her. Colleen missed the feeling of being given the gift of absolute obedience.
But she’d gone in there knowing that Clemmons was a shitty sub. Now it was her turn to sigh. He was trying to learn the concept of letting go in order to achieve a more intense and satisfying orgasm. She’d thought that this time he’d trust her enough to take him the distance so he could fully immerse himself in submission. She shook her head. Not going to happen. The senator always rushed to orgasm, as if he was afraid it would be taken away from him. Biting her lip, Colleen wondered if she could get him to bring his wife to a session.
“All work and no play makes Colleen a dull girl.” Dante uncoiled himself from the wall he had been leaning on and caught up to her in three easy strides. Colleen had walked right by him without even noticing he was there. She gave him a sneer over her shoulder. Speaking of men who needed some time in her dungeon . . .

SYNOPSIS
Finally, Dr. Jasmine
Carter (Jazz) was getting her shot at
taking the lead on one of the Centre’s highly covert operations. Great,
wonderful, a dream come true even—you’d think. Well, that was until Mr.
Tall, Dark,
and Broody—Quade Roston, her fellow Centre co-worker—was assigned to be
her
partner.
For
the last twelve months, these two had been at war. In
fact, they’d elevated trading verbal barbs to the level of an
international
sport. For all the antagonism, the chemistry between them was just as
strong. They
both knew it—their teammates knew it. But what the hell were they going
to do
about it?
Simple—Jazz
issues a challenge to Quade that she thinks he’ll
never accept nor live up to.
Then their seemingly
straightforward assignment to
investigate a few cases of a mystery illness suddenly morphs into
something
much more deadly. Jazz finds herself the unknowing target in the middle
of a
bikie war. Now she’s dealing with threats from all corners. But maybe,
just
maybe, the biggest threat will be to her heart.
EXCERPT
He looked out over the
darkened ocean. The moon cast a silvery shadow over the rippling water.
Right, time to push on with the evening.
Quade headed inside, glancing at Jazz on the way past. As he approached
the couch, she flipped the screen from Facebook to her email account.
Ha, sprung!
His guess was she was chatting to Rihanna online.
He shot her a grin to let her know he was onto her.
“I’m off to take a shower. You’re welcome to join me if you want?”
She looked up a little sheepishly.
“Umm, you go ahead. I’m just going to finish up these emails.”
“Say hi to Brayden and Rihanna for me!” he threw over his shoulder as
he retreated down the hall.
Next second, a flip-flop whistled close to his ear. He ducked and
chuckled to himself.
His girl liked to play and that suited him just fine.
“Guess we need to work on your aim,” he called back to her, over his
shoulder.
“That was a warning shot.” He paused at the door to the bedroom. “Good
thing you’re so accurate then. It’s not like I’m a small target.”
“I’m surprised I didn’t wing your ego in the process. It’s even bigger
than you are.”
“Yeah, huge, just like my dick that you seemed to enjoy so much.
Getting into the shower now.”
What he wouldn’t give to see the look on her face. Now the question was
how long would she wait before she couldn’t stand it any longer and
come and join him. She was so hot for him right now. She wasn’t on her
own.

Author Interview: Rose Blackthorn from Twice Upon A Time anthology
CONTRARY
to the title of this anthology, working with such a talented cast of
writers is an opportunity that usually comes once in a lifetime. From
best-selling to greenhorn, independent or traditionally-published, the
authors in this anthology span all ranges in addition to spanning the
globe—from England to Australia and all over the United States. I've
had the privilege of getting to know each and every one of them, and
they have become a part of my extended family. I've even caught a
glimpse of a secret side of them that only another writer...editor...is
privy to witness through their words.
Through
this series of posts, I plan on introducing you to my new family
through a mini-interview of each. You may not get a chance to see their
secret side, but you'll get a sneak-peek into their minds, their
passions and inspirations, and what made them the writers they are
today.

ROSE
BLACKTHORN lives in the high mountain desert of Eastern Utah with her
boyfriend and two dogs, Boo and Shadow. She spends her time writing,
reading, being crafty, and photographing the surrounding wilderness. An
only child, she was lucky to have a mother who loved books, and has
been surrounded by them her entire life. Thus instead of squabbling
with siblings, she learned to be friends with her imagination and the
voices in her head are still very much present.
She is a member of the HWA and has been published online
and in print with Necon E-Books, Stupefying
Stories, Buzzy Mag, Interstellar
Fiction, SpeckLit, Jamais
Vu, and the anthologies The Ghost IS the Machine,
A Quick Bite of Flesh, Fear the Abyss, The Best of the Horror Society 2013,
Enter at Your Own Risk: The End is the
Beginning, FEAR: Of the Dark, and Equilibrium Overturned,
among others.

..The Mini Interview..
1.
At what age did you start writing?
I began "telling" myself stories at 12 or 13. When I was a few years older, maybe 16 it occurred to me that if I wrote them down, then I would be able to go back and re-read them later.2. Which book introduced you to Speculative Fiction?
Firestarter by Stephen King3. Do you have an all-time favorite book? What about it makes it your favorite?
I have favorites in several genres, so I don't know that I'd be able to chose just one. The one that I've probably gone back and re-read the most times is The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip. (And it makes me cry, every single time.)4. Which author and/or book inspired you to start writing?
No specific author or book. I have read things that were so wonderful, they made me aspire to write something that would have that kind of impact on someone else. I have also read things that were so bad, I felt there was no reason I couldn't do better :)5. What would you say is the most important lesson all writers should learn?
Be true to yourself. You can take classes, listen to and apply advice from others, outline every bit of your story or go from the seat of your pants - but regardless, don't lose your own voice. No one can write what you can.6. Of the entire publishing process, which would you say is the most difficult aspect to endure?
Probably rejection. It is difficult to spend long hours writing something, putting a part of yourself in it, and sending it out to another person only to have them say they don't want it, don't like it, etc. Publishing is a business, and tastes are subjective—but it still stings to get that rejection.7. From where did the inspiration for your submission arise?
My story is based on The Selkie Bride. I have always been fascinated by stories of shape-changers from the sea who could live among people and then return to the ocean. There is a bittersweet condition in so many of those old legends that the selkie is held in human form against their will because their seal-skin has been stolen from them. Inevitably, when the seal-skin is recovered, the selkie will return to the ocean, even if there is true love between she and her human mate. I also have a passion for post-apocalyptic fiction, and I was curious to explore what might happen to a diminishing population of selkies after human beings have poisoned the world in some great final war.8. If applicable, did you have a favorite character (to write) from your story? If so, what sets them apart from the others?
Naia is the main character of my story, and definitely my favorite. I enjoyed exploring what's left of the human world through her eyes, and the fact that although she has come out of the sea for a specific purpose, she could still come to love the people she meets.9. On what projects are you currently working?
I have a novella (another post-apocalyptic piece, sort of) that I've been working on over the last few months between other projects. Also, the first of a trilogy of "epic" fantasy novels which includes shapeshifters, war against an evil that is apparently unkillable, and the unexpected relationships that can thrive between people who are so disparate. Between all that is the real life stuff, that so often takes precedence—even when I'd rather be writing :)

story, Before the First Day of Winter, in your
very own copy of Twice Upon A Time today!
