Dragons Against Them by Kyra Jacobs blurb

Kyra Jacobs weaves a story filled with treachery, intrigue and hidden agendas in her second installment to the Kingdoms of Fire and Ice series. In it we see forces outside of themselves working to keep Zayne and Adelaide apart, and Rosalind actively seeking the means to further her own selfish and bloodthirsty desires.

I enjoyed the few stolen moments where Zayne and Adelaide together, and seeing their relationship develop. Adelaide continues to adjust to learning to live in a completely different culture from the one she grew up in and Zayne chafes at the restrictions upon his desire to be with his Addie. I would have liked to see more of Zayne and Adelaide together rather than having the plot jump from POV to POV.

I struggled with seeing every other chapter focused on Rosalind. From reading the first book in the series, Dragons Among Them, we know Rosalind is the antagonist of the story and her intentions are not noble. I didn't like reading so much about her. I understood jumping from Zayne and Adelaide's POV to Rosalind's POV further moved the plot along but to me, it was too much Rosalind. There were other POVs as well and while I understood the point of them, it frustrated me. I heartily disliked Rosalind for the better part of the book, that might have been intentional on Ms Jacobs' part. :-/

My crankiness over Rosalind's prominence in the book aside, I have to hand it to Ms Jacobs. She does keep you guessing the whole way through the book. While you think you know who the bad guy is and what is being planned, there are twists and turns to the story that will surprise you. And through it all, Zayne and Adelaide's love for each other continues to shine through. It's really because of how much I like Zayne and Adelaide that I persevered. I wanted to see how things worked out for them even when they endured some very difficult times.

Of course, there's a huge plot twist at the end of the book. Something completely unexpected. Probably from about two-thirds of the way into the book and right through to the end, the story truly picked up its pace and come into its own. And then it got very interesting!!!

I will definitely want to read the final book the series since I want to see Zayne and Adelaide have their happy ending and of course, the conclusion to all the drama and excitement which built up in this book.
