What Deanna Read #52: May 2020

Can you believe that it's almost halfway through the year and we've been in lockdown for almost 3 months? I haven't seen my parents in about 3 months and have no plans to do so at the moment as they are in the at risk age group so continuing to social distance, but I do miss them. How have you all been faring?

On the reading front, it's been a strange month for me. It started off really well and I read a ton, then I kinda got into a mood and my brain wouldn't focus, so I ended up watching lots of cooking videos on YouTube. Learned some great new recipes that way though and our lunches have been tasty. Towards the end of the month I got back into reading but had a few duds. Forced myself to persevere and found some great new-to-me authors.

That's it from me. I hope everyone is well. My thoughts are with you all. Stay safe.

Here's what I read for the month.

Despite a mid-month slump I had a good reading month. I enjoyed most of what I read though with a little experimenting there were a few duds. We won't talk about those.

I decided to revisit Dizz Hooper whom I remembered enjoying in the past and ended up glomming quite a few books from her backlist. She turned out to be my binge read author for the month with Five Alarm ForeverOne Night With Four CEOs, and Hanna And The Hot Hockey Gods. These were sizzling hot reads.

I had intended to read more from the Hell Squad series by Anna Hackett but only managed one book with Noah. Not sure what happened there but that was a lot less than I had intended to read. Still, Noah was fantastic and I loved it a lot more than I thought I would since he's not one of the soldiers but he fights the war in his own way and has his own very important role.

I've also made it a point to read a bit more of all the free books I keep picking up from Amaon. One standout book was Life Support by Teagan Kade and I am definitely going to be reading more from this author. What a fantastic story!

And finally, after a few dud reads I was tickled pink to find a book I loved from the very first words. The Billionaires and The Author by Harper West blew me away. I might have been unfairly positively biased towards this book in retrospect but while I was reading, I enjoyed the heck out of it. This book hit all my romancey hot spots.

That's it from me. What did you read for this last month? Do leave a comment and let me know.

Stay tuned for Helen's books next.

  1. Hi Deanna, you're quick off the mark this month. Lol. Quite a good month for me, too, again. Although some were quite short reads. Somewhat of a Tara Lain blitz this month too, with her blacklist coming out on KU, and delving into past purchases.

    1. LOL. It's the first of the month and the first Monday of the month. They kind of crashed on me. I had to hustle to get this out as scheduled. I left it to pretty much the last minute cos I wanted to get my last book read for the month in.

I have the Amanda Quick book to read soon too. I love her. Will need to read her soon. Are you excited for Tane coming out?

    1. I'm only up to book 6, Noah. I'm debating right now about reading Shaw next or something else. I tend to binge Anna Hackett.
