Family is important

This is a deviation from our usual book talk, but I've been thinking about this lately, what with the pandemic making it difficult to visit loved ones and what that means to me.

Why do authors do what they do? by Echo Shea
Well hello!! If you're a
long time reader of the bloggity you'll know I
recently talked about how
authors have release schedules and some stick to it, some
don't. I was a little ranty and put my reader hat on and talked about
how it affects us as readers and how we react to it. I was chatting
about with my author friend Echo Shea and I asked if she's like to
write a rebuttal. Give us the author perspective and what happens
behind the scenes that drive some decisions that we do not know about.
Here's Echo's thoughts on the subject.

What Helen Read #53: October 2020
We are another week closer to Christmas. Our shops have already started
with the Christmas decorations and the Christmas foods. I've already
purchased a few treats that usually only come out during the Christmas
season. Cookies, biscuits, cakes. Lots of yummy, naughty treats. Are
you prepared for Christmas? Will you be able to celebrate where you
are? We are not sure if we will have Christmas this year because of all
the rules around visiting and some family members continuing to choose
to completely isolate. Might be the first time in many years that we
will not have Christmas. That's going to be strange. I love the family
time that we have together as well as the yummy food my mother books.
Here's what Helen read for the last month.

What I do when I'm in a book funk

I'm in a book funk, and I tend not to get into book funks, but I'm in one now. I DNF'ed a highly recommended book, which made me cranky as all get out. I was angry at myself for reading it. So I read a favorite author to reset, which put me in a better frame of mind. After that, I decided to read a book that sounded cute, again, another highly recommended author. This one was bland, and I lost interest. Not one to let failure put me down, I decided to dive into another book. The problem? I can't get into this book even though it's cute and well written. And I know it's not the book. Well, at least I don't think it's the book. It's me. I'm all out of sorts, and I'm not in the right frame of mind to enjoy the book. What to do?

What Deanna Read #57: October 2020
Well now, the news today as I sit down to write this post is that Sean
Connery has died. He was 90 years old and that's a good old age. He
lived a good life but yeah, old. He died peacefully in his sleep with
his family around him. I'm not one to follow celebrities so I tend not
to feel too much of one thing or other when something happens to them
but I feel oddly moved by Sean Connery's death. Maybe it's because I've
watched him for so many years of my life and enjoyed his movies so
much. I always had a little crush on him. Have you ever been
particularly moved by any celebrity's death?
On the other hand, on the covid front, things are improving in our country. There are some small flare ups now and then but aside from that, I think our government has done a great job in keeping this contained and keeping people safe. Contact tracing in my state has been very good. And good news for the state south of us, they have finally moved out of lockdown with zero cases for a few consecutive days. Very happy for them.
That's it from me. I hope everyone is well. My thoughts are with you all. Stay safe.
