Kindle Unlimited Readers: Don't Panic Over Amazon's Price Increase, Do This Instead

Kindle Unlimited price increase

I'm sure everyone has received an email from Amazon or seen or heard about the price change for the monthly Kindle Unlimited subscription. Here's a little tip on how to save some money and lock in your subscription rate before the price increase.

For everyone around the world who subscribes to Kindle Unlimited, you will find that your monthly subscription fee will be going up by $2.00 in your local currency.

For the US, it's going from $9.99 to $11.99 a month. For Australia, it's going from $11.99 to $13.99 a month, etc.

Kindle Unlimited price change

I do not think this price increase is unreasonable, so you won't hear me dissing Amazon for it. In the US, KU was launched in 2014 at $9.99 a month, and the price has stayed the same the whole time. There are always deals, freebies, offers, etc., to entice new readers to try it for free or almost free for up to three months too. So, for the price to stay the same for almost ten years, and then to raise it by $2 a month, I'm okay with that.

Those of us who read voraciously will find that KU is a very affordable way to read. You can see from all my What Deanna Read posts that I read an average of between 20 books upwards each month. Almost entirely from KU. The books average between $2.99 to $4.99 each. If I split the difference and say all the books I read average out to $3.99 a month, that's a whopping $119.70 a month for 30 books which is about average-ish for me. So, $11.99 is worth it. That said, it's still a price hike and I know in these days of everything going up in price, this can be rough for some.

So here's how you can save some money. If you clicky, clicky here, it will take you to a Kindle Unlimited gift page. Gift yourself or a friend or a family member the KU subscription of your choice. Note: I do not know how long this offer will last or how long this link will work for. I've had it for a while and at the time of this post, it's still working.

At $59.94 you get 6 months at the current $9.99 rate. Same goes for the $119.88 for 12 months. However, if you get the 24 months option at $172.66, the price drops to $7.20 a month. Also note: the 24 month gift offer is for the US only. I'm sorry, I do not have it for any other country. I found this link off a blog ages ago and have kept using it. It still works. Most of the other countries would have an offer for 6 or 12 months at the current rate on their respective Kindle Unlimited landing page that will look similar to this. Below is the US version.

Honestly, I'm not crazy about paying 24 months in advance, and I know a lot of people like the monthly option because it's a lower monthly commitment. I get it. But if you're looking to save some money and can manage it, then the 24 month option is a good deal.

Also, don't feel like I'm trying to push this on anyone. I'm only posting about this so that if you wish to, you can save some money on your KU subscription. There is zero obligation. I'm here to keep you guys informed.

Whatever you decide, do what's best for you. Keep, cancel, extend. Whatever. The decision is entirely yours.

Happy reading!!!
