Okay, counting what I "read" because it includes audiobooks too, and yes, audiobooks IS reading, in August, I read 22 books. The rest was September and there was less in September. There where health things and A LOT of work things. Now onto the good stuff...
The two big things were:
First, I discovered Full Cast Dramatized Adaptations with Cinematic Sound Effects audiobooks by Graphic Audio and oh my, did I fall in love. Their tagline is "A movie in your mind" and yeah it's true. Books I never would have considered "reading" I listened to and read. Yay! I am planning a post on this at some point. The reason? I needed a break from all the serial killers that I had been listening to by Toni Anderson from her Cold Justice series even though I love her books and I adore Eric G Dove as a narrator.
Secondly, I discovered Michelle Heard as an author. She's not a genre I usually read. Mafia romance, but you guys! Her writing is stellar. She has the ability to write something that is violent and potentially triggering (depending on the person) with difficult characters and difficult situations, and yet write it in such a way that her character development is amazing and her unbelievable premises are believable. Kudos! I'm utterly hooked on her writing and up until her, I never really found a mafia author I loved. I love her. I wouldn't recommend just any author when it comes to mafia romance, but I will recommend her. I even got hubby reading her books just because she's such a wonderful example of great character development and writing craft skills.
Other than that, you'll see there were a lot of rereads because August and September, I just needed comfort reads.
That's it from me. What did you read last month?
PS. Are we really even going to pretend that there's going to be a top 10 of 2023 list at this point?
PPS. In case you're wondering and were missing Helen, I know some of you have asked...Helen is dealing with some personal stuff right now, but she's still reading and still wonderfully supportive of the bookish community. We wish Helen well in the stuff she's dealing with and hope she can get back to sharing her reading list and her top books with us soon. xoxo
