Merry Christmas 2015 and Review: A Pirate for Christmas by Anna Campbell

chr

Merry Christmas!!! I hope you and yours have a wonderful celebration with lots of food, fun and frivolity. May there be much joy, love and laughter in your festive season.

Since it's Christmas Day and I seem to have a problem keeping to my no blogging schedule over the holidays (I've blogged everyday this week!) I thought I'd post a lovely little review of a lovely little Christmas novella I read by the lovely Anna Campbell.

I expect there will be less posts in the following weeks during the blog break? I dunno. Can't seem to help myself with the blogging. For some reason, it seems like with the break or supposed break, my brain is working overtime and I've got some creative inspiration and motivation back for blogging. Maybe all I needed was the idea of a break and giving myself permission to shut down?

Anyway, I digress. On to the review ...

There’s a pirate in the manor house!

What is vicar’s daughter Bess Farrar to do when the dashing new earl, the man gossip paints as a ruthless pirate, kisses her the day they meet? Why, kiss him right back, of course! Now Lord Channing vows to claim the lovely firebrand, despite interfering villagers, a snowstorm, scandal, and a rascally donkey. The gallant naval captain’s first landlocked Christmas promises mayhem – and a lifetime of breathtaking passion

Pursued by the pirate…

Bess Farrar might be an innocent village miss, but she knows enough about the world to doubt Lord Channing’s motives when he kisses her the very day they meet. After all, local gossip insists that before this dashing rake became an earl, he sailed the Seven Seas as a ruthless pirate.

Bewitched by the vicar’s daughter…

Until he unexpectedly inherits a title, staunchly honorable Scotsman Rory Beaton has devoted his adventurous life to the Royal Navy. But he sets his course for tempestuous new waters when he meets lovely, sparkling Bess Farrar. Now this daring mariner will do whatever it takes to convince the spirited lassie to launch herself into his arms and set sail into the sunset.

A Christmas marked by mayhem.

Wooing his vivacious lady, the new Earl of Channing finds himself embroiled with matchmaking villagers, an eccentric vicar, mistaken identities, a snowstorm, scandal, and a rascally donkey. Life at sea was never this exciting. The gallant naval captain’s first landlocked Christmas promises hijinks, danger, and passion – and a breathtaking chance to win the love of a lifetime.

Anna Campbell presents us with a lovely, enchanting and sweet Christmas tale that is at once whimsical and heartwarming.

When I started reading this book, I thought I was in for a rapscallion of a pirate earl, all spicy and sexy but instead, I got Rory. Rory is delightful. He's fun, charming and full of light and laughter. He brings so much fun to this story, I'm enchanted by it. I was also expecting a rogue and instead he's honorable and noble ... probably a little too noble for my liking. I would have been fine with more naughty shenanigans.

Bess is a delight too. She's rather a managing sort but she's so nice about it, and she's so thrown askew by her attraction to Rory that it's all very endearing. I can't tell you how glad I am that even though Bess is managing, she's not a shrew. I love her combination of confidence and shyness. It crushed me when she misread Rory's intentions and was sad. I couldn't wait for Rory to sort her out and see her smile again.

Gotta also give a special shout out to Daisy the donkey, who, I think, stole the show. Her antics and personality were delightful.

Thank you for a fun, sweet Christmas read, Anna. Just what the reading doctor ordered.
