Is it all about the (wedding) dress? by Jean Rabe

Wedding dresses in window

I’d never been much for writing romance; I was more into bullets flying, bombs exploding, swords slashing, and dangerous chase scenes. I love pyrotechnics. Die Hard is my idea of a chic flick.

Books I have not finished 2021 #2

Time for another books I did not finish. I'm hoping to slow down the number of books I have not finish by being more circumspect about what I pick to read. This tends to mean I stick more to favorite authors rather than venturing out and experimenting since there's a high probability of books not working out when I do that. That said, I do have a few highly recommended books in my TBR from a book group where people have raved about the book. Those are always iffy. We shall see what happens...

So without much further ado, here's some books I have not finished recently.

Trigger warnings: do we need them?

Warning

I've been meaning to talk about trigger warnings for a while and kept putting it off. Then I saw a post in a book group discussing the topic, which reminded me that it is something I want to discuss.... so here we are...

What Helen Read #60: May 2021

Hey! Hey! Hey! <--- This is me attempting to be cool. News flash! I'm not!! LOL. I'm way behind today. For some reason, I struggled to wake up this morning. Maybe because it's cold and I just wanted to stay snuggled in my nice warm bed and it's a Sunday, but I did have to get up since we had to go out for errands this morning.

Steve wanted to get this whisky that was out of stock that just came back in stock online. The website said there was none in store and I wanted to buy it right away yesterday. Oh no! Steve insisted he wanted to wait and check the store even though the website said there was none there. Yeah, so we went, checked, and there was none there. Came home and checked online and they were always sold out. It's a popular whisky. Feh! He should have let me buy it right away for him when I wanted to do it yesterday. Snoozy, losey.

On a fun note, I bought a new tea to try. It's a Thai tea mix. Delicious, but only 10 sachets in the pack for $7. A bit spendy since I need to use 2 sachets for on mug. Very yummy though. I'll save it for a special treat.

Anyway, enough of me prattling on.

Here's what Helen read for the last month.

What Deanna Read #64: May 2021

Well, it's officially the middle of the year. Dare I say it? Where did the time go? How did half a year go by so quickly?

From my end, this post is a little late because we've been away. Steve's writing a crime thriller and we combined our 20th wedding anniversary with a book research trip and moseyed on down to Tasmania for a little vacay and research. We had a great time and when we got home today, I was wondering why my lunch didn't cook itself. I got very spoiled while away.

Here's what I read for the month.

Book quotes #7: June 2021

Passion led us here

I recently read a book that had a ton of whisky references and if you have been following my book quotes for a while, you know I love whisky references. Steve is a big whisky drinker, and while I do not drink it, I am fascinated by it and I've learned a lot about it just listening to Steve talk about it and visiting many distilleries on our trip to Scotland last year. Anyhoo, I hope you indulge me as I indulge in some whisky love.
