What Helen Read #54: November 2020

Welcome to the middle of December! Do you know what struck me today? In about three weeks, it's going to be 2021. How is that for a total mind eff? Boom! That thought had not even occurred to me. Did I mention my mind boggles? How are you going preparing for the end of the year? Anything special going on? Are you able to spend Christmas with your family? We are not having Christmas this year with the family even though there are no restrictions to the gathering because... reasons. Family stuff, ya know. So I think I'll have my parents over to my place on Christmas Day for drinks and nibbles, or if they don't want to come on Christmas Day, I'm thinking lunch at our favorite restaurant one day when the restaurant is open again after Christmas. Anyway, enough blathering on from me.

Here's what Helen read for the last month.

Helen always has a fabulous reading month. Let's see what stood out for her.

Another fabulous month of reading and there are some absolutely fabulous stories.

I read two books this month that are set in the roaring twenties and truly they are so very good, I loved being transported back to the 1920’s, such fun. They are Michelle Montebello’s The Lost Letters Of Playfair Street is a story of intrigue, a love so strong, and a game of clues that have us searching over The Rocks Sydney in 1929, set in two times lines. This is a must read. The other is Pamela Hart’s The Charleston Scandal is a page turner, this one set in London on West End in the 1920’ a time of excesses, fun and choices, times are changing and young Kit has some choices to make and there are some very famous people in the story including royalty, and yes another must read.

Some fabulous historicals as well with Anne Gracie’s The Christmas Bride another in The Chance Sisters series and it was so heart-warming and beautiful, and Anna Campbell has another story in her Laird’s Most Likely series, The Highlander's Christmas Countess. Who doesn’t love a Scotsman in a kilt and it is a Christmas story? I loved it.

I read a new to me author Leanne Lovegrove. Her book, Keeper Of The Light is so well written. It is set in Tasmania in the 1950’s. The story is moving and I loved it and look forward to more from this author.

The Giving Tree is a mystery story number five in the series and I can recommend it and the series. Phillipa Nefri Clark writes a good story.

Misty by Fiona McArthur is a beautiful moving story set in a small Australian town it was so lovely to read.

I can honestly highly recommend them all they gave me a lot of pleasure this month

Have fun, Helen.
