Got gargoyle?

Ginger Butterbean would like to, but she’s not sure how to go about it. Her marriage of a hundred years has crumbled to dust and she’s worried her witchy bits might be so full of cobwebs, they’ve malfunctioned.

She needs sexy gargoyle Slade Nightwing to remind her of what it means to be a witch and that love isn’t just a fairytale.

This story was ... cute. I really don't have anything else to say about it. I enjoyed it and it was entertaining but it was short, a little too short to really develop the characters and for me to get an understanding of them to any depth. I think the first few books in the series are longer.

Slade (I do love that name) is a hunky gargoyle who's decided when he met Ginger at a party (where she behaved badly) that he wanted her. He gets loaned to her as her security detail for 10 days, during which time, prim and proper Ginger needs to come of out her shell and grab life and Slade by the balls (so to speak).

I loved how straight-forward Slade was. What you see is what you get. And he says what he means and means what he says. No beating around the bush, no ulterior motives, not guessing games. More people should be like him.

I started out wondering about Ginger because there was so much internal monologue about how awful she had been but in reality there wasn't much to it. She had been rather naughty with an interesting shaped straw at a party. Ginger had a lot of baggage she needed to work through, from her upbringing and what her mother told her how a witch like her should behave to a loser ex. Slade nudges her along the way with some special gargoyle nectar (now get your head out of the gutter! It's nectar from a flower!) and the rest is up to her. I like she took her life in her own hands and decided to live it to the fullest and to be happy.

Everything happened very quickly in this story since it was so short (only about 50+ pages). The time frame within the story was short too, only 10 days.

If you're after a quick, cute read, this would be a fun story to pick up. Don't expect and depth or deep character development though. I picked it up because I'm a sucker for gargoyles and I love reading about them. This was fun.

This is a standalone too, so you don't need to have read the previous books in the series.

About the author
auSaranna DeWylde has always been fascinated by things better left in the dark. She wrote her first story after watching The Exorcist at a slumber party. Since then, she’s published horror, romance and narrative nonfiction. Like all writers, Saranna has held a variety of jobs, from operations supervisor for an airline, to an assistant for a call girl, to a corrections officer. But like Hemingway said, “Once writing has become your major vice and greatest pleasure, only death can stop it.” So she traded in her cuffs for a full-time keyboard. She loves to hear from her readers.

Tuesday Teaser: Stone Solitude by A C Warneke

For today's Tuesday Teaser, I thought I would feature a book that showcases an obsession of mine - gargoyles. Yes, you heard right, gargoyles. Those gruesome stone creatures that sit on top of gothic cathedrals and castles. Why do I find them so sexy, you ask? For that, I blame Danielle Monsch. After reading her Stone Guardian, I became completely obsessed with them and started reading every gargoyle book I could get my hands on. Some are better than others. I'm rather excited about this one. And oh goody! Reading the blurb of this one tells me she has more gargoyle books, plus, she's working on book two of this series too!! Glom! Glom! Glom!

The CharmerTitle: Stone Solitude
Author: A C Warneke
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services
Publish date: 29 September 2014
Length: 303 pages
Genre: Paranormal romance

A cursed stone Beast

Isolated and alone, without family or fortune, Roman Nosuntres is a gargoyle forgotten by the world. He just wants to get back what once was lost and his only hope of breaking the curse that binds him lies in the unconditional surrender of an innocent. He just never anticipated someone like Daisy, who slowly brings color into his black and white world.

An innocent & beguiling Beauty

Born into a life of love and privilege, surrounded by friends and family, Daisy Tremain doesn’t quite fit in. She’s a wolf who can’t shift and a Siren afraid to sing. Not broken or damaged, just a little lost, Daisy’s life finally starts to make sense when she meets the mysterious Roman. Imperfect apart, they are perfect together.

As long as they don't piss off too many gods.

STONE SOLITUDE is a full length novel at 107+K words. It can be read as a standalone and there is no cliffhanger but if you're interested in other gargoyles, there is the Stone Passions Trilogy (Stone Lover, Stone Romance, & Stone Destiny.) Siren Song is the story of Daisy's parents. Not recommended for anyone younger than 18 due to sexual situations and strong language.

About the author
Like most writers, I spend most of my time telling myself stories and occasionally writing them down when they get too loud to remain in my head. The characters are also very demanding, wanting to go out into the world to be discovered by millions of adoring readers, though they are most satisfied with having only a few readers that truly love them. From the gargoyles that sit on top of the roofs to the Siren who lures her wolf astray to the Aradians and Apocritae to those who battle evil, the characters are everything.

Instead of going through the traditional gatekeepers of the publishing world I have leapt over the walls with the help of digital catapults (starting with kindle direct and createspace) and messenger e-birds (goodreads, facebook, twitter, RNC, etc), going directly to the public. It has been a year and while my strong hold is small it grows larger every day as I connect with other rebels throughout the lands and the readers who support our work. It is a glorious day to be a writer.

When it comes to the actual writing I have discovered that every single one of my books likes to be created in a different way, which makes establishing an environment that is most conducive to my writing is not likely, though it occasionally involves chocolate covered raisins, music, minesweeper, occasionally Mahjong, lots of solitaire, notebooks and scraps of paper, doodling and day dreaming, and fruity, sugar-free bubble gum, not necessarily in that order and not always at the same time.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the love and support of my very loving and very tolerant family: my husband who encourages me to keep writing even when I act a little insane in regards to the worlds in my head, and my three kids who help out so much when I get lost in those same, darn worlds. They politely listen as I go on and on about my characters' motivations and back stories, their connections within the worlds created and how they fight to gain control of their destinies. But I am a cruel writer and make them earn their happy endings.

Since I am also a Romantic at heart, they are all happy endings.

Review: Stone Guardian (Entwined Realms #1) by Danielle Monsch

Stone Guardian (Entwined Realms, #1)Stone Guardian (Entwined Realms #1) by Danielle Monsch

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Heat rating:

Gryphons flying past skyscrapers? Wizards battling it out in coffeehouses? Women riding motorcycles with large swords strapped to their backs? All normal sights since the Great Collision happened twenty-six years ago.

Well, not normal for everyone. Larissa Miller may have been born after the Great Collision, but as a history teacher who lives in the human-only city, she has never come into contact with any other race or species, nor has she wanted to. Her life is as ordinary as it gets - that is, until one day she walks out of her apartment and is attacked by a mob of Zombies, only to be saved by a Gargoyle.

Gargoyles trust no one outside their Clan, but due to a cryptic prophecy, Terak, Leader of the Gargoyles, has been watching over the human woman for months. While he can find no reason why the woman has been singled out, something about her stirs every protective instinct within him. When the attack confirms that the threats against her exist and are real, he convinces Larissa that though their races have never been allies, the best chance of discovering why she has been brought into his world is by working together.

In the course of their investigation Terak becomes entranced by his little human. But when he discovers why Necromancers want her and the great reward that awaits him if he betrays her, he must choose between the welfare of his Clan and not only Larissa’s life, but the fate of this New Realm as well.

I saw Danielle post a link about this book (the audio version) on her Facebook page and got sucked in by the gorgeous cover, all that monochromatic grey with the hunky gargoyle on it. Then I read the blurb and found the book to be very interesting, so I immediately bought the Kindle version and pretty much read the book in a single day, in two sittings (I had to take a short break in between for dinner!).

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The story was great, the world building was unique and well developed. I love Terak's character, but then I'm always a sucker for a strong, protective alpha male. I also enjoyed Larissa as well. I loved how sensible Larissa was and that she could acknowledged her weaknesses, working within the confines of her strengths.

I enjoyed the dialogue between Terak and Larissa and loved how the dialogue drove a lot of the development of their relationship. I love a good dialogue driven plot.

All in all, I'm very glad to have discovered this book and Danielle as a writer. I look forward to her next book in the series.

Another thing to note is that this book is the beginning of my obsession with all things gargoyle ... or at least all books that have gargoyle heroes. Don't know what it is about them, but the strong, silent alpha male really works for me. I find them super sexy.

There were also some very memorable moments in the book that I really enjoyed. Here are a few of the quotes from the book that stood out for me:

Danielle Monsch“Well, here were the ugly facts. She had no mad-ninja-skillz to rely on and her family didn’t know where she was. She didn’t know where she was. The only way she was leaving was if this creature allowed it.”
― Danielle Monsch, StoneGuardian

“Make no mistake, little human. You are under my protection now, and I protect what is mine.”
― Danielle Monsch, StoneGuardian

“This woman was consuming him, bit by bit. She was becoming the reason and the reward of his existence, and if he did not shield himself, everything he did not have to give would belong to her.”
― Danielle Monsch, StoneGuardian

“We get chased by orcs, I’m tripping you and running the other direction.”
― Danielle Monsch, StoneGuardian
