Where I've been | Medical Hiatus: April 2023

Medical teddy bear

Hello, bloggity readers. You may have noticed that the bloggity has been a little quiet the last few weeks. There's a very good reason for that.

Today's blog post will be different from the usual, as I have some personal news to share.  I'm sorry to say that the bloggity and website will be going on a medical hiatus due to a medical emergency that I've been dealing with for the past three weeks.

On 11 March, 2023, I woke up to significant vaginal bleeding and was rushed to our local hospital emergency department. Over the next 10 days, I had five hospital ER visits, four ambulance rides, three discharges from ER, two hospital admissions after discharge from ER, and one canceled emergency surgery, resulting in much drama. It's been a roller coaster ride, to say the least.

After several hospital visits, scans, and an MRI, I was diagnosed with a large fibroid mass in my cervix, which I named Goose for ease of reference. I had an emergency surgery scheduled with a public hospital, but it was later canceled, which resulted in much angst. Eventually, I was admitted to a private hospital, and Dr. Olly, my surgeon, suggested a total hysterectomy to remove Goose. He also mentioned that since I've not tried for children, I wouldn't have known about any other issues, like endometriosis, which may exist.

The surgery was performed on Monday, and Dr. Olly said everything went well. I'm now on day five of recovery and was discharged to go home yesterday. Things are going as well as can be expected. Dr. Olly says I should be as rested and relaxed as possible to aid my recovery. Recovery will take some time, and I will need to take things easy for a few months. But I am on the road to recovery and plan to be back blogging in about six weeks.

Thank you for understanding, and I appreciate your support during this time. I'll be sure to keep you all updated on my progress.

xoxo,
Deanna

  1. Just glad you're home and recovering instead of being miserable and shuttled about with the first lot of doctors. Take your pain pills, rest; stay hydrated; rest. Very happy you are no longer in pain. I know Steve will take good care of you. Big hugs and healy vibes <3

  3. Good to hear that things have been taken care of and you have been looked after. I've been through that surgery and it is good advise to rest for at least six weeks. Take good care of yourself. I will hold you in my thoughts. Warmly, Lyn

    1. Thank you so much. The recovery is going well, though slowly. My biggest problem is remembering I should not be lifting heavy things.
