Let's chat and what I'm reading now #1

Welcome to a new feature I am trying out on the bloggity. This came about because I had a lot of fun when I was testing the newsletter and getting it right with extra blog posts and I enjoyed the random nature of it, talking about bits and pieces, and also the latest book I'm reading. I want to talk a bit more about the books I'm reading rather than just posting a review or what I read each month. You'll need to let me know if you enjoy the casual nature of this post and if it's something you'd like to see more of. And of course, shameless plug again, if you want to sign up to get emails whenever there's a new blog post up, you can do so here.

Okay, for the first random bit of what's going on. Our toaster died. It's ten years old and only cost $49 to buy, so it has served us well. It's a four-slot toaster and it has two sides, left side and right side. Each side controls two slices. The left side died. Oh, it still toasts, but when you push the lever it won't stay down so if I want to use that side, I have to stand there and hold the lever down while it toasts. Kinda boring really, standing there watching bread toast. In talking to Steve, we agreed that the reason the left side died is because we use it the most. The right side still works but it's a faff to only be able to use one side when we want to toast more than two slices of bread. Anyway, after a week of living with the dead toaster, we finally went to Target to get a replacement. We bought the same Target brand toaster, it has four slots, and it is still $49. No inflation on the toaster. And that folks, is the excitement that is our lives. We are so wild!

On the reading front, I read Treasure of the Fire Kingdom recently. I happened upon the book because someone recommended it as a fun book where the heroine gets kidnapped and she goes along for the ride like it's a fun outing. Hoooo!!! This was fun. Hope, the heroine does sort of get kidnapped by the hero, Kingu, but not before she accidentally lands on him and drops him into a moat full of acid. Kingu is a rather ugly monster and everyone is terrified of him, but not Hope. Hope thinks he's handsome as all get out and she loves his monstrous decorating of his hideous castle. Along the way, shenanigans ensue, Hope and Kingu get closer and she tries to get Kingu to understand that he's worthy of her while Kingu is completely obsessed with Hope and never wants to let her go. Throw in Hope's crazy family and the book is a hoot. This is book four in the series and I didn't feel lost at all just diving in. A little bit of a warning though, the epilogue ends in a crazy cliffhanger that doesn't get resolved during the course of the series so you might want to skip reading the epilogues since it doesn't have any bearing on the current timeline and the series is not complete. That's the one thing that bugs me. The last book in the series (book six) came out in 2014 and there's been nothing since other than the crazy cliffhanger epilogue at the end of the book. Don't read the epilogue if cliffhangers drive you nuts. The series is fun though and the books are worth reading.

That's it for the first lot of my ramblings. I hope you had as much fun with it as I did putting this together. Tell me what you want to see more of on the bloggity. I'd love to accomodate you.
